Round 5 (152): Linebacker Derrick Barnes
While I added linebacker Jabril Cox in the third round, I’ll add another linebacker in the fifth in Purdue’s Derrick Barnes.
The big difference between the two is that Barnes is more of a run-stuffing defender who can play as an outside linebacker or with his hand in the dirt as a defensive lineman.
Talk about versatility. Whew.
One thing that I really like about Barnes is his balance. Even when he is about to hit the ground, he is able to stay up and use his length to make tackle and sacks.
Barnes could certainly help in the run game for the Broncos. The team ranked 25th in the league in 2020, allowing 130 rushing yards per game. This would be a tremendous addition to this defense.
Denver will have to go up against running backs such as Josh Jacobs and Clyde Edwards-Helaire twice a year for who knows how long. Having a true run-stuffing linebacker will be key for the long-term future.
I feel like Barnes is a must for the Denver Broncos.
