Washington Football Team needs a quarterback

Once again, the Washington Football Team is looking for their next franchise quarterback. That player could be selected by the team in the first round of the 2021 draft.

Alex Smith, who made a remarkable comeback happen in 2020, was a free agent but now decided to retire. That means that Washington will be looking for their next quarterback unless they are (very) strong believers in Taylor Heinecke.

Washington would need to make a ginormous jump in the 2021 NFL Draft in order to snag one of the big four. Unless, of course, they like the guy who would still be on the board after the four picks are made.

There’s been a lot of smokescreen regarding who the third and fourth picks will end up being. Some say it will be Trey Lance and Justin Fields. Some believe that Mac Jones will be in consideration in place of Lance.

Washington isn’t new to making big trades for their franchise hopeful: In 2012, they sent three first-round picks and a second-round pick to the Rams to select Robert Griffin III with the second overall pick.

There’s one constant in that scenario compared to today’s: Dan Snyder is still the team’s owner. Will he step up and pull the trigger on the next big NFL Draft trade? Even though the jump is pretty significant, I would not rule it out.
