Heading into this upcoming season, the Denver Broncos player with the most pressure — without a doubt — is quarterback Drew Lock. Lock, who is entering his third season, has had many fans debating if he’s the QB of the future or just another unfortunate misfire in the latest of Denver’s quarterback troubles. Some see him as a project who could be the next Josh Allen, while others see him as trade stock for the next quarterback.

There are many reasons why fans should be patient with Drew Lock. Here are a few of them.

One of the top reasons to be patient with Lock is the fact that he’s only 24 years old. Along with being on the better side of age, he’s also only played a total of 18 games in two seasons. Many quarterbacks recently, such as Josh Allen, Baker Mayfield, and Ryan Tannehill to name a few, struggled their first few seasons.

Imagine if the world gave up on a 23-year-old Drew Brees, who had a combined 28 touchdowns with 31 interceptions in his 2nd and 3rd season after becoming the starter for San Diego.

The next reason why fans should be patient with Lock is the fact that he’s shown flashes of greatness with a loaded arm. The fact that no one questions if he has the arm to get it to the open receiver versus picking which receiver to get it to says a lot.

The biggest downside with Lock’s game is his decision-making and inconsistent play, however, these negatives are something that can be fixed with more in-game reps. With more reps will come a more consistent level of play with better rhythm and understanding of the offense, which is something the Denver Broncos have lacked overall the last few seasons.

The third reason is very simple: Lock gets another year in the same system with offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur. New offensive schemes while mixing in new weapons and losing your top target in Courtland Sutton is never an easy task.

Add a life-changing global pandemic in the mix and that task becomes nearly impossible. It’s important that Lock gets another year in the same offense with the same weapons. Shurmur, who believes in Lock, also went on the record acknowledging the importance of the deep ball, which fits Locks style versus the checks down and screens that fans have grown accustomed to.

Finally, the last reason why fans should be patient with Lock is that if it doesn’t work out there’s always next year. The true Denver Broncos fans are not going anywhere. Next year’s NFL draft could feature some game-changing quarterbacks, such as Sam Howell, Bo Nix, Spencer Rattler, Desmond Riddler, and many more.

The Broncos are expected to draft a quarterback this year, but if he isn’t the answer, knowing the talent that awaits in next year’s draft is promising.
