Justin Fields, Quarterback

The first round is going to be all about the quarterback position and since that is the spot on the team that is still most talked about in Denver, there has to be one quarterback on this list.

Fields is the only guy to consider, however.

Trevor Lawrence and Zach Wilson are going to be the first two picks of the draft. The 49ers moved up to No. 3 to grab a quarterback.

If Mac Jones or Trey Lance is still on the board when the Broncos pick, those players should be passed on. Fields is the one you don’t pass on.

I have argued all offseason that Drew Lock needs one more year as the team’s starter. No trades should be made, including moving up in the draft. George Paton should sit where he is and see what comes to him.

With the Panthers trading for Sam Darnold, the team likely won’t draft a quarterback, meaning that at least one of the top five should still be available. If that happens to be Fields, Paton should pull the trigger.

Fields is a gamer. He proved that in the College Football Playoff against Clemson this past season. He has achieved success at every level he has played at and he has been groomed to be a professional quarterback for many years.

He is mobile in the pocket and can make all of the throws. He is much more accurate than he gets credit for and threads the needle with tremendous velocity. He is everything you want in an NFL quarterback and if teams are doing their homework, there is no way he should still be on the board at No. 9.

And spare me the history of Ohio State quarterbacks in the NFL. It means nothing when it comes to Fields.
