Since George Paton has been hired as the general manager of the Denver Broncos, he’s collaborated with the coaching and scouting staff to determine the direction of the roster.

He’s taken action toward building the roster by re-signing Justin Simmons to a record contract, re-signing Shelby Harris, picking up Von Miller’s contract option, letting go of and then re-signing Kareem Jackson, and signing free agents Ronald Darby and Kyle Fuller.

Defense has been a heavy emphasis so far in the 2021 offseason, and understandably so. The Denver Broncos have invested a ton on the offensive side of the ball in the past couple of offseasons including their five first- and second-round selections (Noah Fant, Drew Lock, Dalton Risner, Jerry Jeudy, KJ Hamler).

If the season started on Sunday, the Denver Broncos could put a starting 22 out there that, on paper, would be able to win games. At least, that’s the way I see it.

The one major question mark right now with just about one month before the 2021 NFL Draft — what is George Paton thinking at the quarterback position?

The Denver Broncos have passed on this year’s free agency crop. They even turned down reported interest from former Chicago Bears top draft pick Mitch Trubisky, who signed for a mere $2.5 million to be Josh Allen’s backup in Buffalo.

If the Denver Broncos wanted a quick, one-year type of fix at the quarterback position or a veteran capable of pushing Drew Lock for his job, they could have done that without giving up any draft capital at this point.

Again, they have passed on those opportunities and the veteran free agent quarterback market has completely dried up.

With free agency no longer really an option for what the Denver Broncos apparently want to do, which is bring in someone that can actually push Drew Lock for his job, what is up next for George Paton?

With just about one month until the 2021 NFL Draft, there seem to be a few options emerging.
