The Denver Broncos have made a move to add a new cornerback, but more help is needed.

The Broncos took advantage of the league’s legal tampering period on Monday, coming to terms on a deal with veteran cornerback Ronald Darby.

Darby, a former second-round pick, will be playing for his fourth team since coming into the league. While he has had a bit of a roller-coaster career, he is coming off of a solid season with the Washington Football Team in which he allowed just one touchdown.

This was a strong move for George Paton and his team, but does he have enough at the cornerback position? Bryce Callahan, Michael Ojemudia and Essang Bassey help to fill out the depth on the team, but it still feels like a true No.1 cornerback is needed.

The Broncos could and should be eyeing that position with the No. 9 overall pick in the upcoming NFL draft.

Caleb Farley, Patrick Surtain and Jaycee Horn are all players the Broncos could consider in the first round, and they might even be able to get one or two of those guys by trading down to acquire more picks.

The Broncos went into the offseason with cornerback as the No.1 need on the roster by far. The signing of Darby was a move in the right direction to be sure, but Paton must not get complacent. In a passing league (particularly one where you have to go up against Patrick Mahomes twice per year) you can’t have enough of these guys.

Farley would be a solid option for the team, but others prefer Surtain over him. Either way, the Broncos should have their pick of the litter, especially when you consider how many quarterbacks are likely to be drafted in the top 10.

Now, if the Broncos were to add a guy like William Jackson in free agency, a move we’ve been talking about for some time now, that would move cornerback far down the team’s list of draft needs.
