Broncos: Ronald Darby signing solidifies secondary for 2021
By Jordan Lopez
The Denver Broncos just got a steal in their latest big free agency signing.
Former Washington Football Team cornerback Ronald Darby, has reached an agreement with Denver on a 3-year, $30M deal, $19.5M of which is fully guaranteed for the new Broncos corner.
Darby had an exceptional season with the Washington Football Team this past year and will look to build upon his strong 2020 play for the Broncos this season upcoming.
According to Brandon Krisztal, Ronald Darby is a “scheme fit” for Vic Fangio’s defense. Fangio will have his hands full with a talented corner who can now help solidify this Broncos secondary. Fangio will most likely have Darby playing on the outside with a lot of one-on-one situations.
Darby was a key part of one of the best defenses in the league last year for Washington. His stats includes 16 passes defended, adding 43 solo tackles, and assisting in 12. He also had one TFL and one fumble recovery.
Darby was also targeted 98 times this past season with only 53 of them being completed and allowing one touchdown.
The former second-round pick is the newest defensive back in the room for Denver and is in company with Bryce Callahan, Michael Ojemudia, and Essang Bassey.
With Justin Simmons getting the franchise tag at just under $14 million, the Broncos have invested some substantial cash in the secondary already this offseason. New general manager George Paton knows that the right pieces in Vic Fangio’s defense could lead to the Broncos being among the league’s best units in 2021.
We should receive some news soon on Von Miller and if George Paton will pick up his option or not. Justin Simmons is still a priority in reaching an agreement with him long term and we wait to see if Philip Lindsay, Tim Patrick and Alexander Johnson will get tendered.
