In terms of his size, explosiveness, and athleticism, Ahkello Witherspoon is about exactly what you would draw up for the Vic Fangio defensive scheme.

Although I think he is scheme versatile, Witherspoon put some of his best stuff on tape in limited snaps in 2020 especially in zone coverage and in the red zone.

I put together a thread of plays on Twitter looking at what makes Witherspoon a good potential fit for the Broncos’ defense.

A former Colorado Buffalo, Witherspoon would have a great opportunity in Denver to potentially come in and win a job and be a long-term solution for the Broncos.

Injuries have unfortunately caused Witherspoon to miss 17 games over his first four NFL seasons. Because of that, however, he might be able to be signed to a team-friendly deal in free agency.

There is no doubt that players all over the place are going to have to take shorter deals to prove themselves and cash in as the salary cap rises again in the next couple of years. Witherspoon could go to a team he has more familiarity with like the Jets (and new head coach Robert Saleh) but the Broncos would also present him with an intriguing opportunity to play and excel.
