The Broncos could be interested in adding someone who plays the nickel at a high level for a couple of reasons.

First and foremost, guys who play primarily in the nickel seem to come at a severely discounted rate compared to outside corners even though teams spend the majority of their defensive snaps in the nickel.

Second, Bryce Callahan played exceptionally well as an outside cornerback in 2021 and the Broncos could view him as the best fit there for 2021 splitting time with 2020 rookie Michael Ojemudia.

For those two reasons, don’t be shocked if the second cornerback the Broncos sign in free agency is a player like Mike Hilton, who is an exceptionally underrated part of a very good Pittsburgh Steelers defense.

Over the past two seasons, Hilton has four interceptions and 18 pass breakups in addition to two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, 4.5 sacks, 10 QB hits, and 14 tackles for loss.

This guy is all over the field making plays, and his physical style of play is perfect for the Vic Fangio defense as a nickel.
