Denver Broncos: Ranking the team’s 5 best free-agent signings since 2010
2. Aqib Talib, 2014
The Broncos were on a mission following the Super Bowl loss to Seattle and Aqib Talib was one of the team’s major acquisitions.
The Broncos lost Champ Bailey and Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie following that Super Bowl defeat and the team needed a new lockdown cornerback. They found one of the league’s best.
After two solid years with the New England Patriots, Talib signed a six-year, $57 million contract with the Broncos which allowed him to join up with his former college teammate, Chris Harris. Combined with the signing of Ward, this was the start of the “No Fly Zone”.
The Broncos quickly established the best secondary in all of football, replacing the “Legion of Boom” in that regard.
Talib was terrific for Denver and was clearly one of the best cornerbacks in the league during his four years with the team. He made the Pro Bowl in each of them.
Talib had six interceptions while with the Broncos and returned six of those for touchdowns. While his most memorable moments in Denver may have been taking the gold chain off the neck of Michael Crabtree twice, Talib was an extremely talented player that made huge contributions to the team.
