Denver Broncos: Ranking the team’s 5 best free-agent signings since 2010
3. DeMarcus Ware, 2014
Can you tell that the 2014 free-agent signing period was a fruitful one in Denver?
When the Broncos were able to sign DeMarcus Ware, it was not only unexpected, but it put this free-agent class over the top.
Ware is one of the best pass-rushers the league has ever seen and he brought that to Denver but what he did for the career of Von Miller is probably the best thing he brought to the team.
The Dallas Cowboys made the difficult decision to cut Ware in an attempt to save some cap room and the Broncos pounced, signing Ware to a three-year contract the very next day.
Ware made the Pro Bowl in each of his first two seasons in Denver but he took Miller under his wing and helped an already great player become even better. Miller is still a great player, but he’s really never been as good since he played in tandem with Ware.
Ware got the Super Bowl ring he long craved in Dallas and retired following the 2016 season. In three seasons with the Broncos, he had 21.5 sacks.
Ware will take his rightful spot in the Pro Football Hall of Fame at some point down the road.
