Broncos free agency: 3 possible Bears cuts to watch for
2. Kyle Fuller, Cornerback (Age: 29)
The Bears certainly don’t want to deplete their roster but again — desperate times call for desperate measures.
The team prioritized bringing back Allen Robinson at receiver, and at present, their quarterback is Nick Foles.
Sacrifices will have to be made, and some of them could be big.
Although they would eat $9 million in dead cap, the Bears could free up $11 million by releasing starting cornerback Kyle Fuller, who had a career-low eight pass breakups a season ago.
Fuller also had just one interception last season — again, a career-low — in 16 games played.
The issue with possibly cutting Fuller is, the Bears don’t really have any alternatives behind him at this point. Their secondary depth has been somewhat of a hodge podge of free agent castoffs from other teams, so this move seems less likely than Akiem Hicks being moved.
With that said, if the Bears decide to dump someone like Fuller whether it’s via cut or trade, the Broncos could have some interest.
Again, familiarity with Vic Fangio’s defense is key, and like many other defensive players who have played for Fangio, Fuller had his best season as a pro in 2018 — Fangio’s last season in Chicago — when he was named All-Pro after picking off seven passes.
