Should the Denver Broncos pursue Denzel Perryman?
By Jordan Lopez
The Denver Broncos will be in the linebacker market for this upcoming season and Denzel Perryman can be a great addition to Vic Fangio’s defense.
According to the linebackers agent, Perryman will be exploring his options and testing the free-agent market.
Perryman went to the University of Miami, where he had a great college career. He was then drafted in the second round by the Los Angeles Chargers in 2015 and since then, he had been a major part of that Chargers defense.
In 2020, Pro Football Focus graded Perryman and leading all Chargers LBs in pass rush, run defense, and coverage. He also has the second-highest run stop percentage amongst linebackers in the NFL with 11.6 percent.
Perryman did have a reduced role this past season for the Chargers. The new first-round pick for the Chargers in 2020, Kenneth Murray, played the majority of the snaps.
For the past five seasons he has had some trouble staying on the field with some injuries but when he is healthy, the Miami native is a star.
With the recent news from George Paton stating that Alexander Johnson will be getting tendered, adding Perryman with him and alongside Josey Jewell will not be bad for the Broncos for the upcoming season. This will add more depth for this position and help them moving forward.
The Broncos can steal a special guy like Perryman for relatively cheap, especially with his skillset. A lot of teams will be interested to add him on their roster but this is a guy Fangio should want.
