Broncos: Notre Dame TE Tommy Tremble set up for pre-draft meeting
Even though they have a budding star in Noah Fant and a tremendous number two for the future in Albert Okwuegbunam, the Denver Broncos might not be finished adding young talent to the tight end position.
According to The Draft Network’s Justin Melow, the Broncos are one of a wide variety of teams interested in speaking with Notre Dame tight end Tommy Tremble, a redshirt sophomore who entered this year’s draft despite just 35 receptions to his name.
Despite somewhat of a small sample size, Tremble has more than enough on tape to warrant a top-100 selection in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Add in the fact that he has unlimited upside given he is just 20 years old, and it’s no wonder teams are lining up to talk with him.
Notre Dame has produced some freakish athletes at the offensive skill positions in recent years. Most recently, Chase Claypool made the jump from the Irish to the NFL in Pittsburgh and looked absolutely dominant at times.
Tremble is a vastly different player but he looks like he will have no trouble finding a role in just about any type of NFL offense with his blocking abilities, natural athleticism, speed, and strong hands.
This young player is a high-effort, high-intensity blocker who routinely shows up on tape in the best way in this phase of the game.
Listed at 6-foot-4, 248 pounds, Tremble has some room to grow but he probably won’t end up playing at much bigger than 255 pounds at the next level. He has great play strength already and he does a good job of getting to the second level in a hurry and making sure his guy is taken care of.
Violently.
So why are the Broncos talking to a top-100 prospect at the tight end position? That is a great question.
With Noah Fant and Albert Okwuegbunam already on the roster, it doesn’t seem like the Broncos have much of a need here at all but consider the fact that this is a position the Broncos have really struggled with in the injury department in recent years, Okwuegbunam included.
Nick Vannett is not guaranteed to be on the roster this season and frankly, Tremble offers much more upside there and now Fant can be considered your experienced veteran type of guy.
With the type of role he played at Notre Dame, Tremble could easily take over the spot currently held on the roster by Andrew Beck or Troy Fumagalli as someone who can line up in the backfield, in the slot, and in-line.
