Denver Broncos: Which Super Bowl loss was the worst?
1. Broncos vs. Seattle Seahawks- Super Bowl XLVIII, 2013
This one was awful, just absolutely awful.
After the season the Broncos had in 2013, it seemed like a fairly sure thing that the team would cap it off with a Super Bowl win.
The Broncos had been one of the best offensive teams in league history and Peyton Manning had set a single-season record for passing touchdowns (55) and passing yards (5,477). Seattle seemed like a great opponent, but it wasn’t their time yet.
Wrong,
The phrase “defense wins championships” was never more prevalent than in this game as the defensive-minded Seahawks were ready and willing in this one, simply being the much more physical team.
The Broncos seemed clearly overwhelmed from the opening whistle and this game was never close as a result. Seattle went on to win 43-8, the kind of result absolutely no one would have predicted.
Though the other four Super Bowl defeats were tough to swallow, this one still feels the worst. Is that because it’s the most recent and as a result, is still so fresh? Or because it just seemed like the Broncos were the much better team and should have won the game?
Probably a little bit of both.
