Denver Broncos: 4 free agents to target from Super Bowl teams
This deal would likely be difficult to pull off, and Shaq Barrett may not even have any interest in returning to Denver after they let him walk not long ago. Hindsight is always 20-20, but Barrett has become one of the best pass-rushers in football.
Barrett was always good for the Broncos, netting 14 sacks in five seasons with the team, but he was never able to get the number of snaps he was looking for as the Broncos had guys like Von Miller and Bradley Chubb ahead of him, and they even gave more playing time to Shane Ray since he was a first-round pick.
Looking for more of an opportunity, Barrett wound up in Tampa and he exploded with 19.5 sacks to lead the NFL in 2019. Though he took a step back with just eight sacks this past season, he is still a force and that has been on display in the postseason.
Because of his production, Barrett is going to be looking for a massive pay day, but there is one way the Broncos could afford to make that happen. It would be sad to see the team move on from Von Miller, but it is an idea that should be discussed this offseason and with the money the team would save on that deal, it could afford to bring Barrett back.
There could be a huge market for Barrett, leading to a big bidding war. Tampa Bay probably won’t let him go easily and the chances of him coming back to Denver likely aren’t high, but he should still be on George Paton’s list as a possibility.
