Denver Broncos: 10 offensive prospects to consider in 2021 NFL Draft
Denver Broncos 2021 draft prospect: Alex Leatherwood, OT Alabama
Some of the other offensive tackle prospects we mention do project some at guard, but Alabama’s Alex Leatherwood is one right off the bat who very well could be a guard at the next level or a tackle.
Right guard especially is an interesting story given Graham Glasgow is there but sustained some injuries and Netane Muti saw time near the end of the year.
Leatherwood is a gifted blocker, but there are times he gets stiff when he faces rushers who can adjust mid pass rush rep. He is still exceptional athletically to make up for some of it. Leatherwood is a strong run blocker who creates plenty of run lanes.
His aggressiveness is impressive to where he can move players to certain areas he needs to. He can be a road grader in the run game. Much like some of the other prospects at offensive tackle, he would help out the rushing attack. Leatherwood does do enough to where he can be a capable tackle in the NFL. The only question becomes fact he is so good at moving people is best suited for the inside of the line. Nonetheless, it is a great problem to have if you’re in Denver.
If Denver does consider Leatherwood at tackle, as mentioned earlier, he is movable and athletic enough to get the job done. The question becomes can he learn some tricks of the trade to adjust as pass rushers adjust.
Stiffness is an issue, but Munchak can work with him on this there’s a good chance he can be a solid tackle at the next level and replace James. He would be a well-worth investment if Denver decided to take a chance on him early day two or back half of the first if they have a pick there.
