Denver Broncos 2021 defensive prospects

Patrick Surtain II, CB, Alabama

Another special player at the cornerback is one with strong NFL bloodlines. Patrick Surtain was a very successful corner in the NFL from 1998-2008. He spent time with Miami Dolphins and Kansas City Chiefs. Surtain was 3-time Pro Bowler and one-time All-Pro. Pretty impressive bloodlines for the Surtain family.

Surtain II is also not the only player with great bloodlines heading to the NFL this year.

One area Surtain II excels in right away is the ability to be a strong boundary cornerback with great knowledge of zone coverage. If Denver Broncos do move on from A.J Bouye, then Surtain II and Caleb Farley would be great choices. Surtain II displays tremendous length and discipline at corner.

A lot like Farley, the length comes into play for both of them. Surtain II does struggle in top speed to where deep passes happen sometimes. More often than not he does a great job understanding his role and what a defensive coach asks of him. Surtain II is close to the product of Farley that he might leapfrog him depending on a team’s preference.

Surtain II may not have the same ball skills as Farley, but his discipline puts him in a great position more often than not. With a recent draft pick of Michael Ojemudia, Denver may very well turn to Surtain II also due to a more refined skill set.
