What are the key matchups between the Denver Broncos and the Los Angeles Chargers?

Since Week 1, I have taken a look at each critical individual matchups the Denver Broncos needed to win to come out of each game with a victory. Last week the Broncos played a tale of two halves against the Buffalo Bills. The Broncos showed some life offensively for 30 minutes but couldn’t sustain it to match the Bills’ ability to score against a depleted Broncos defense.

The matchups to watch last week were between the Pat Shurmur against an invigorated Buffalo defense. The offense was able to make some plays offensively, and without some missed kicks and batted down passes, the offensive output could have been impressive.

On defense, the Broncos had to match Josh Allen’s stellar play. The dual-threat, MVP candidate was simply too good against a banged-up Broncos secondary.

Win or lose, there is plenty to watch for fans to watch for over the final few weeks. There will continue to be storylines about players, team outlook, and organizational direction.

As the Broncos move to a new phase in their rebuild, seeing how the last few weeks unfold can really help a fans’ perspective into the team’s future.

The last few games offer insight into Broncos cornerstone players and how the team will build for 2021.

Denver Broncos Matchups: Looking ahead to the Los Angeles Chargers

Throughout the season, I’ll continue to break down key individual matchups each week that are critical to a Broncos win.

This week, the Broncos face-off with AFC West rival the Los Angeles Chargers on the road. The Chargers are coming off a thrilling win against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Justin Herbert continues to play well on his way to a Rookie of the Year award. The defense seems to be making enough plays to help the offense, so this week poses a challenge for the Broncos defense.

The Chargers offense seems to be hitting on all cylinders and will create mismatches for the depleted Denver secondary.

With a win Sunday, the Broncos will regain their momentum and look to close out the season strong against the Raiders in week 17.

If they lose, how the game unfolds will be the largest influence. For a young team, they must continue to make small strides towards being the team they want to be in 2021.

So, who needs to play well for the Broncos to win this week?

This matchup is a bit different than the two team’s earlier matchup.

This week, I look at who must win their individual matchups to ensure the Broncos win against the Chargers.
