Denver Broncos returner Diontae Spencer is the AFC special teams player of the week for week 15.

The Denver Broncos got a boost of confidence almost right off the bat against the Carolina Panthers on Carolina’s first punt of the day. Return man Diontae Spencer was the reason for that spark.

Spencer took a punt to the house to put the Broncos up 6-0. It was the team’s first punt return for a touchdown since November 8, 2015, when Omar Bolden returned one 83 yards against the Indianapolis Colts.

The score was Spencer’s first career touchdown.

In eight games this year, Spencer has returned ten punts for 175  yards and the lone touchdown. As a kick returner, he has nine kicks for 154 yards.

Credit should also go to safety P.J. Locke for providing a very good block that shielded Spencer from getting tackled. If it weren’t for that key block, we probably would not be here talking about Spencer coming out of the game with the award.

The special teams touchdown is not something that we see every week. It’s a fun way to put points up on the board, but at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how you do it.

Drew Lock robbed of AFC Offensive Player of the Week Award

While Spencer earned credit for his performance against Carolina, a lot of people will be disappointed that quarterback Drew Lock did not get the credit he deserves for his performance in the game.

Lock completed 21 of 27 passes (77.8 percent) for 280 yards, four touchdowns, and zero interceptions.

It was like we were seeing a quarterback who was finally zoned into the game. In previous weeks, we would never have guessed Lock would come out with this type of performance for quite some time. It’s one thing to throw four touchdowns but doing so while having no passes intercepted is great news.

This is something that we want to see more of and hopefully, he has that type of game again in the near future. The Broncos drafted Lock to be the future and if he can put up this type of performance again, he should be the guy.
