Key Matchups

Broncos running attack vs. Chiefs front seven

There is some question on if Phillip Lindsay will be able to go against the Chiefs on Sunday. Vic Fangio did mention that he might not be at 100-percent for this game, so I can see quite a bit of Melvin Gordon in the mix.

As long as Gordon can prevent putting the football on the turf, his running abilities could make it interesting for a Chiefs defense that ranks 23rd in run defense, averaging 128.2 yards per game.

An effective run game will chew up some clock and keep Patrick Mahomes on the sideline as much as possible. And what has been noticed is that the longer Mahomes remains off the field, the better chance at victory.

Essang Bassey vs. Chiefs wide receivers

With Bryce Callahan out for Sunday’s game against the Chiefs, I would highly expect Michael Ojemudia and Essang Bassey to play a role in the matchup. The one player that I am really keeping my eye on is the cornerback that helped the Broncos get their only three points against the Saints.

Bassey has been up and down this season, from what I have observed. But the team cannot have a bad game against the types of weapons that Patrick Mahomes has.

Each cornerback will be watched under a microscope, but with how Bassey performed the last time that Callahan was out, I have both of my eyes on him.

X-Factor: Garett Bolles

For the Denver Broncos, keeping Drew Lock upright is going to be important to win this game. Kansas City is not known much for it, but they do have an ability to get to the quarterback.

We all know that Bolles signed his big extension last weekend. This is his real chance to see how he can do against a tough front in the Kansas City Chiefs.

The way that Bolles has come along since his earlier years has been quite the improvement. Let us just hope he can continue on this path to becoming a quality starting left tackle.
