What are the key matchups between the Denver Broncos and the Kansas City Chiefs?

Since Week 1, I have taken a look at each critical individual matchup the Denver Broncos needed to win to come out of each game with a victory. Last week the Broncos played in a catastrophe of a game against the New Orleans Saints at Empower Field at Mile High.

The Broncos were forced to play against the NFC powerhouse without their first, second, third, and even fourth-string quarterback.

The NFL made a stance that roster exceptions would not delay outings, and the entire quarterback room would be forced to sit due to close contact COVID-19 protocols.

For the sake of brevity, I will leave it at that.

Matchups: Looking ahead to the Kansas City Chiefs

Throughout the season, I’ll continue to break down key individual matchups each week that are critical to a Broncos win.

This week, the Broncos face-off with the AFC West front-runner Kansas City Chiefs on the road in a Sunday Night Primetime Matchup. Unlike the Broncos, the Chiefs are fresh from a sound win, against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers no less.

The Chiefs come in at 10-1 and sit firmly in the lead of the AFC West and look like the premier team in the AFC. Their ability to win in all three phases makes this matchup the toughest of the season.

Additionally, the Chiefs have talent falling out of the pockets and have mismatches at almost skill positions on their team.

Like the Saints, the Chiefs will challenge the Bronco defense in various ways and put the Denver defense in a predicament each and every play.

The Chiefs defense seems to play their best in games that matter. Though they have given up points and yards, they make plays and are a big key to this team’s dream to repeat as champions.

With a win Sunday, the Broncos will keep their playoff hopes alive, but most importantly end the dubious streak of losing to the Chiefs each of the last 10 games. To begin to give this young team belief that they can compete with the best in the league, this game is as good as any to do so.

So, who needs to play well for the Broncos to win this week? The players that were key matchups in the first game must come through again, but there is one key player.

This week, I look at who must win their individual matchups to ensure the Broncos win against the Chiefs.

Hint…the kay matchup involves the game’s most important positions.
