3. Bringing in a young guy

While I think there is a chance this happens, I do not think it is very likely.

Bringing in a young guy would mean looking to the 2021 NFL Draft and selecting someone like Trey Lance or Zach Wilson, or it could also mean trading for a guy like Sam Darnold, who is surely on the move if the Jets secure the first overall pick.

If this happens, Drew Lock would stay with the team and would be penciled in as QB1, but he would have some tough competition. The idea of doing this is to give Lock a bit of urgency, and hope that with decent competition, he can take his play to the next level.

I think between the draft and players already in the league, bringing in Sam Darnold would be the most likely scenario. He is currently in about the worst possible situation imaginable in New York, and most definitely needs a change of scenery. Darnold has been ‘mocked’ to Denver if you will, and the Broncos would have competition for his services.

If Lock does not show much improvement over the final few games of 2020, I believe this would warrant scenario #3.
