2. Lock stays, but Broncos upgrade QB2

This is a scenario I can easily see happening. Bringing in a high-quality veteran backup for Drew Lock helps the team in two ways.

First, it gives the Broncos a nice fail-safe if Lock implodes in 2021 and simply is not the guy.  With a high-quality backup, the Broncos can remain competitive with their notoriously strong defense.

Second, a veteran backup can help mentor and develop Drew Lock. While this sentiment may be overused in the NFL, it has seen success. Ryan Fitzpatrick has been a great mentor for rookie QB Tua Tagovailoa. He is constantly seen going over gameday film with the rookie signal-caller, and Fitzpatrick also has a reputation of being an excellent teammate.

Ideally, a veteran backup for Lock would look a lot like Miami’s situation. Miami is currently in a playoff spot at 7-4 and has been able to get to that point due to having a competent backup.

Names that I wouldn’t mind seeing as a backup to Drew Lock would be Jacoby Brissett, Andy Dalton, Mitchell Trubisky, Tyrod Taylor, and Ryan Fitzpatrick.
