Eric Crabtree

If you think back to some of the wide receivers that have played for the Broncos, you would come up with a really long list before ever including the name Eric Crabtree. In fact, you might not ever include his name.

Crabtree was originally drafted by the Broncos during their run in the old AFL, which is when this game took place. It was on November 23, 1967 at the old San Diego Stadium against the San Diego Chargers.

That year, the Chargers were one of the best teams in the AFL while the Broncos were one of the worst. On this day, the Broncos hung with the Chargers, largely due to the effort of Crabtree.

1967 was Crabtree’s best as a professional and this was one of his best games. He caught a career high 48 passes that season and against the Chargers, he hauled in eight receptions for 107 yards and a touchdown.

Though the Broncos lost the game 24-20, Crabtree was a big factor in the game, catching eight of the 18 passes that Steve Tensi completed.

Crabtree spent three seasons in Denver before playing for the Cincinnati Bengals and then ending his career with the New England Patriots.
