Phillip Lindsay and Melvin Gordon

Pat Shurmur finally figured out that the key to a successful offense is not abandoning the run, and the Denver Broncos had a successful day on the ground between both Phillip Lindsay and Melvin Gordon.

Following last week’s blunder against the Las Vegas Raiders, fans were up in arms over how few looks Lindsay was getting, and that problem seem to be rectified today, with Lindsay getting 16 carries, good for 82 yards and an average of 5.1 yards per carry. That is 12 more carries than Lindsay had gotten against the Raiders.

It has been proven beyond a reasonable doubt that this offense performs much better when Phillip Lindsay is getting lots of opportunities. Here’s to hoping we have seen the end of a Phil-less offense going forward.

Meanwhile, Melvin Gordon had one of his best games of the season, as well. He finished the day with 15 carries for 84 yards, good for an average of 5.6 yards per carry. Gordon also finished with two touchdowns, tying his season-high against the Jets in October. Gordon would have had three, but unfortunately, he fumbled in the end zone and gave away what should have been a game-ending score.

This is where Gordon’s stock drops a bit. Gordon had one of his most solid performances of the season, but his ball security continues to be an issue, as he recorded his fourth fumble of the season.

Overall, hopefully, the run attack can continue to enjoy this kind of success going forward.
