When Ja’Wuan James opted out of the 2020 season due to COVID-19, the Broncos acted rather quickly to bring in Demar Dotson.

Dotson is a veteran player who had been let go by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who drafted Iowa’s Tristan Wirfs as a long-term replacement.

As a replacement for James, Dotson has been just fine. Moving forward, the Broncos should look for every reason to get younger at the position.

Dotson hasn’t been flawless, by any means, but he’s been the best option so far. Elijah Wilkinson was struggling badly before an injury landed him on IR, and he’s also a free agent but with the flexibility to potentially return as both guard and tackle depth.

If the Broncos did want to bring Dotson back in 2021, it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world. However, Ja’Wuan James’ contract tolled to 2021 and he should be expected back, healthy, and ready to go.

The Broncos will likely look for a better/younger hedge in the 2021 NFL Draft, or perhaps Calvin Anderson will prove worthy of being the top reserve tackle.
