Stock Up

Essang Bassey, CB

A pleasant surprise on the 53-man roster at the beginning of the season, Essang Bassey often rode the pine in favor of De’Vante Bausby. However, as we know, Bausby was let go by the Broncos, giving guys like Bassey an opportunity to stand out.

When news broke this morning that Bryce Callahan, along with A.J. Bouye, would be inactive, a large spotlight shone on Essang Bassey.

Although the secondary was picked on all day, Bassey came away with two huge tackles for loss, a positive aspect in a pretty dim day for the Broncos defense, who were missing seven starting defenders on the day.

If Bouye and Callahan miss more time going forward, Bassey could be gifted even more opportunity to show what he brings to the table. Bassey could even be given a more substantial role in the defense than Davontae Harris, whose performance has to have the Broncos’ front office questioning his future with the team.

Overall, Bassey looked nice today. We hope to see more of him in the future.
