Play Calling

My goodness. I decided to save the worst for last. For a good amount of 35-37 minutes of the game, I seriously believed that Pat Shurmur could very well be on the hot seat. His playcalling over the last few games has been downright frightening.

With the Patriots game, having Lock throw deep when you have a two-possession lead and roughly four to five minutes to go in the game? Are you kidding me?

The Chiefs game with wanting to go deep and abandoning the running game early when it was working so well. And I don’t even know what to call what I saw for a little over one half of football against the Chargers.

Luckily, it took some motivation from his teammates, but Drew Lock was able to figure it out and ball out. But I truly believe Pat Shurmur needs to work on building his quarterback’s confidence and to stop going for the big plays so much.

Once Lock gets used to adjustments and working on his mechanics, it will all be okay. Just simplify the playbook for the time being. At least until the offensive unit can gel together.
