What are the Denver Broncos’ early top five needs for the 2021 NFL Draft?

The Denver Broncos have assembled a competitive roster, even considering the barrage of injuries they have had to endure in the 2020 season.

Although the Broncos obviously hope to win while their young core of players develops, they are under no illusion that the roster is a completed product at this point and the 2021 offseason and 2021 NFL Draft, in particular, will be huge in really finalizing the initial four-year rebuild which started with Bradley Chubb and Courtland Sutton in 2018.

The Broncos hope they have the quarterback of the future in Drew Lock, and he will continue to be ‘the guy’ throughout the 2020 season and beyond until he clearly proves otherwise.

The Broncos’ front office has been doing prep work on the 2021 NFL Draft since before the 2020 NFL Draft even took place. They have been hard at work evaluating college prospects and their potential fit in Denver with the current Broncos structure.

What are the top areas of need this team should be honing in on at this point?

Fans have been clamoring for an offensive tackle for a couple of years now, but it appears as though that position won’t be as high on the Broncos’ priority list with how well Garett Bolles has been playing.

Is the quarterback position an area of need? That will depend completely on what Elway and company think of Lock for the long-term, but every indication at this point is that the Broncos are building around the 2019 second-round pick.

Which key free agents could the team soon be without? What areas of this team are weakest both in the short and long-term?

Everything has to be taken into account when putting together an honest list of needs for the Denver Broncos for the 2021 NFL Draft, but nothing is more important than considering the current players on the roster and the players coming out in the 2021 class.

The strengths of the draft class will definitely be at wide receiver, tight end, linebacker, and cornerback. Some also really like this year’s crop of edge defenders for their all-around potential and physical gifts.

How do the strengths of this class best match up with Denver’s current pressing needs and future needs based on likely free agent movement?

Let’s take a look.
