3. Trade TE Nick Vannett

The Denver Broncos signed Nick Vannett to a two-year deal in 2020, effectively signing him as Jeff Heuerman’s replacement.

Heuerman remains a free agent, but Vannett has not proven to be a better blocking or receiving option than Heuerman was with the Broncos.

This move has been head-scratching from day one, and Jake Butt has actually out-snapped Vannett, who was a healthy scratch against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Perhaps a change of scenery is necessary for the veteran tight end at this point, or maybe it’s just in the Broncos’ best interest to move on.

Albert Okwuegbunam looked like a better receiving threat than either Vannett or Butt in very limited action, and the team also has Andrew Beck on the roster who can play tight end.

If the Broncos can’t find a trade partner for Vannett, they might consider releasing him outright as roster spots will be needed with a variety of players soon coming off of injured reserve.
