The NFL trade deadline is scheduled for November 3.

Before then, all 32 teams around the league will assess their situations and decide if there is a piece to add or perhaps a piece to dump. In year’s past, the NFL trade deadline was nothing more than a footnote on the calendar. But more recently, teams have been more active at the deadline.

For the Denver Broncos, who currently sit at 1-3, the next two games should decide if they want to pursue added help or if they want to dump a player with a big contract who may be able to help another team.

Both of those games come against tough teams in the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs. If the Broncos could find a way to win those two games and get back to .500 at 3-3, they could definitely look to add a player to make a playoff push.

Another cornerback would be a great place to start.

On the flip side of that coin, they could easily drop to 1-5 as they will be considerable underdogs in both of those games. That would almost certainly leave the team on the outside looking in at the playoff picture and could lead the front office to begin a “fire sale” of sorts.

One popular rumor has talked about the Dallas Cowboys acquiring safety Justin Simmons. Other players on the roster who could be traded could include Shelby Harris and maybe even Jake Butt, players who are in the final year of their contract.

Of course, the team could choose to stand pat and not do anything, as most teams around the league choose to do at the deadline. But it’s always fun to speculate.

If the Broncos did fall to 1-5, trading players would have to be considered. The team would not be making the playoffs this season and if it could bring in some extra draft capitol for next year, it would be silly not to look seriously at that.

If they happen to win both of the games against the Pats and Chiefs, then it’s a brand new season. That doesn’t necessarily mean a trade should take place, but the Broncos do have some deficiencies on the roster and would need an upgrade in order to be a serious contender.

John Elway has never really been a guy to make a move before the trade deadline. But if he is leaning one way or the other this season, these next two weeks will be key in that decision.
