Brett Rypien’s performance

Ty: Brett Rypien played fairly well for his first start. What about his game was impressive to you?

Romi: I was impressed with Brett Rypien’s composure. For me, when I saw Brett Rypien, I said “I hope the Broncos realize they found a backup.” This guy is a perfect backup. He is your Gary Kubiak to your John Elway. So, hopefully, they can keep him around. I think he is a smart guy. The guy you want to put in for two games if your quarterback can’t play for some reason.

Yeah, he threw three interceptions. But the way he rebounded was huge. Normally, you see these guys begin to crumble. We have seen it for the past five years in Denver. Seen one guy after the next just crumble. You can see them losing all of their confidence. For Rypien to stay that composed after making some really big mistakes was really impressive. You don’t teach that, you just have that. To rally himself and this team and lead a fourth-quarter go-ahead drive is huge.

He also took some huge hits. He is not the biggest guy but got back up each time. A lot of his teammates commended him for it. He showed everything. He’s got the guts. He’s got the smarts. A guy that you want backing up your starter.

After he threw the block for Melvin Gordon, that was it. Brett Rypien, baby!
