Denver Broncos: Biggest surprises so far in the 2020 season
5. Michael Ojemudia
In 2017, the Denver Broncos used a third-round pick on Brendan Langley, a big-time athlete with raw skills who they hoped could develop into a starting cornerback.
In 2018, the Broncos used a third-round pick on Isaac Yiadom, a player they fell in love with at the Senior Bowl who they felt was a perfect scheme fit and could develop into a starting cornerback.
In 2019, the Denver Broncos used a third-round pick on Michael Ojemudia, a player they loved for his toughness and scheme fit for Vic Fangio’s defense.
Broncos Country was understandably skeptical of the Ojemudia selection given the team’s recent history of failed third-round cornerbacks, but Ojemudia has been one of the most pleasant surprises of the early 2020 season.
But wait, hasn’t he been beat a number of times? How has he been a pleasant surprise?
Ojemudia did give up a big play against the Pittsburgh Steelers against fellow rookie Chase Claypool, though some could argue Claypool got away with an illegal armbar move just before the ball reached his hands.
He has given up some plays, but he’s also made a lot more really good ones and is tied for the team lead right now with three pass deflections, and a few very near-interceptions.
The future is bright for Ojemudia and he’s proven to be a heck of a player early on in his NFL career.
