When the Denver Broncos lost Justin Strnad for the entire 2020 season and then released Todd Davis, everyone was wondering what kind of big trade might be in the works.

As it turns out, the Broncos just really liked what they saw out of Josey Jewell, who was benched in 2019 after he got injured in favor of Alexander Johnson.

Now, he’s Johnson’s other half out there at inside linebacker, and he’s playing exceptionally well.

Through four games, he’s got 30 tackles, two sacks, two tackles for loss, and a pass breakup. He hasn’t exactly been perfect, but it’s safe to say at this point that Jewell has out-played what anyone expected of him given what we had seen in his first two years in the NFL.

Jewell’s development in year two with Vic Fangio and year three in the NFL has been a pleasant surprise and similar to Garett Bolles at left tackle, it makes you wonder if the Broncos can actually keep inside linebacker off their to-do list in 2021.
