In his time with the team as head coach/general manager, there were very few stones that Mike Shanahan left unturned.

We’ve seen some similar habits from Kyle Shanahan (and John Lynch, who played for Mike) with the San Francisco 49ers, taking calculated risks on players who were once really good or who were really high draft picks in recent years.

Mike Shanahan once brought in Simeon Rice, a dominant pass rusher in the late 90s/early 2000s.

From 1996-2006, Rice racked up 121 total sacks and 28 forced fumbles between his time with the Arizona Cardinals and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

He had four sacks in the Buccaneers’ dominant defensive playoff run in 2002, but by 2007, his time in the NFL was up.

Rice played just six games with the Denver Broncos and didn’t record a single sack with the team. He had just one QB hit and one tackle for loss.
