Denver Broncos coach Vic Fangio said that Brett Rypien would start at quarterback against the Patriots if Drew Lock can’t go.

On

, the Denver Broncos gave 2019 undrafted free agent quarterback Brett Rypien the start against the New York Jets. Rypien apparently did enough to convince Vic Fangio to give him another chance.

That is, if Drew Lock can’t play. According to Fangio, there is a 50-50 chance that Lock will play against the Patriots.

Fangio said on Friday that Rypien would get the start in New England against the Patriots if Lock is unable to go. Lock suffered a shoulder injury against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 2.

According to Fangio, Lock has yet to throw a football since suffering the shoulder injury.

Rypien had a decent showing against the Jets on Thursday night. He completed 19 out of his 31 passes for 242 yards, two touchdowns but did throw three interceptions. There was some good in this game by him but the Broncos hope that he will eliminate those interceptions.

There were a few times that he threw into a bad spot—where there were three defenders to one receiver. Interception.

The Broncos also have newly-signed Blake Bortles, who some thought would take over at some point. The Broncos must feel like they have something in Rypien.

After Lock got hurt, the Broncos went with Jeff Driskel. Driskel completed 35 of 64 passes for 432 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions. However, Driskel took 11 sacks in just those two games.

The Broncos started the season 0-3 before getting a win against the Jets. Many question the future of the quarterback position in Denver.  I believe that since they went all-in with giving Lock weapons to succeed, they should continue rolling with him once he is fully healthy.

For now, Rypien appears to be the guy who will lead them into New England to take on Cam Newton and the Patriots. It’s been one crazy season. Do you know what would make it even crazier? A win at Foxborough.
