Vic Fangio talked to the media about the team’s decision to make veteran Nick Vannett a healthy scratch against the Buccaneers, and said it was a decision he didn’t like to have to make.

Vannett will probably play against the New York Jets but I think Jake Butt could play a more crucial role in the passing game this week than any other week in his NFL career.

We know Brett Rypien is going to be getting rid of the ball quickly on many passing plays, and there will likely be plenty of opportunities for Butt, who is not going to be the primary focus of the Jets’ defense.

Butt has gotten open this season, and he’s been targeted a few times with little production to this point.

This could be the week he finally gets things going as the Jets will undoubtedly place an emphasis on Noah Fant in the passing game.

It might only be a couple of catches, but I think Butt could play a huge role.
