6. The rookie cornerbacks were impressive

The Denver Broncos had a battle in training camp for the no. 3 cornerback position, and it was seemingly between three guys: Davontae Harris, Isaac Yiadom, and De’Vante Bausby.

Yiadom was traded to the New York Giants and Bausby was sent to the practice squad, but it wasn’t Harris who was the team’s third corner in the season opener.

It was rookie Michael Ojemudia, and right behind him was fellow rookie (and undrafted gem) Essang Bassey.

The Broncos used a third-round pick on Ojemudia and he was impressive in this game until a late pass interference penalty. He had a nice pass breakup in man coverage on a tight end early in the game, and a game-changing interception later which was negated by a really bad penalty call on linebacker Alexander Johnson.

Ojemudia finished the game with two tackles and a pass breakup while Bassey showed his worth as a nickel and dime defender, making five tackles including a tackle for a loss.

Ojemudia played 64 snaps in this game to Bassey’s 45, but both players were really good in their NFL debuts and will hopefully just continue to progress through the season.
