The Denver Broncos gave kicker Brandon McManus an extension.

Kickers are people, too. The Denver Broncos rewarded theirs, Brandon McManus, with a contract extension on Friday.

The deal is for four years, and worth $17.2 million. McManus will get $9.5 million in guaranteed money.

McManus will receive $3 million this year, with the rest coming in the four years following the 2020 season.

McManus has made 141 of his 171 field-goal attempts in his career, which is good for a 81.5 percent. In 2019, he connected on 29 of 34 field-goal attempts.

This locks up the kicker position for the Broncos for the next five years. He’s been a reliable kicker since joining the Broncos following a trade from the New York Giants back in 2013.

McManus has been very clutch for the Broncos. As Mike Klis points out this incredible stat, no wonder the Broncos want to keep him around:

The Broncos would like to have continuity in key spots on the team. The kicker position is absolutely one of those positions. Not that McManus would have to look over his shoulder, but this shows that the Broncos are all-in on their franchise kicker.

It is going to be interesting to see what type of impact McManus will have with the Broncos especially in 2020. The team has a new long-snapper in Jacob Bobenmoyer, who beat out Wes Farnsworth for that spot on the team. The chemistry between these two will be key on special teams.

Going forward, the hope is that the Broncos will not have to rely on McManus to make game-winners. Hopefully, the team is ahead in many games and everybody can breathe normally without having to see games come down to the wire.

Although that is what McManus is paid to do, it just would not be ideal.

The Broncos have a lot of new weapons on offense who they hope will score a lot more points than their defense gives up.
