Week 5:  New England Patriots- Nicholas Manning Follow @NManningPO

Early in the offseason, most of Broncos Country was licking their chops at a chance to play the New England Patriots without Tom Brady. However, the “Hoodie”, Bill Belichick was able to acquire former NFL MVP Cam Newton who was named the Patriots starting QB for week 1.

The Patriots also bring a top-flight defense with them and the Broncos have had little luck in Foxborough throughout the Belichick era.

So, that must mean the Broncos come away with a loss, right?

As the great Leo Corso says, “Not so fast my friend”.

By this time in the season, the Broncos should be hitting their stride offensively. Couple that with a much more subdued environment in Gillette stadium with limited to no fans (assuming), the home field advantage may be minimized.

Though Denver should be looking better, moving the ball against the Patriots may be tough so the run game will be necessary a la Tennessee Titans strategy in their 2019 playoff win in Foxborough.

With a 14-10 lead, the Broncos defense will suffocate Newton and the depleted offense for the Patriots.

With limited options passing for New England, and a strong pass defense for the Patriots the game will be low scoring.

The Broncos will lean on the versatility of their offense, and relentless front seven throughout the game.

Denver will win the rushing battle as Melvin Gordon and Phillip Lindsay combine for over 200 yards of total offense and Noah Fant scores a big touchdown late to squeak out a win as they upset the Pats in their own backyard.

Final Score:  Broncos 20  Patriots 17
