6. Shane Ray

Shane Ray was the Denver Broncos’ first-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, and he was supposed to be the long-term successor for DeMarcus Ware.

After a strong 2016 campaign in tandem with Ware where he racked up eight sacks and 21 QB hits, Ray was injured in 2017 training camp and unfortunately never returned to the form he had previously showed.

That wrist injury derailed Ray’s career and he’s been out of the league for a year, though he did get a camp shot last year with the Baltimore Ravens.

Ray looks in shape, still works out with Von Miller on the offseason, actually, and doesn’t look too bad in his Instagram videos…

Ray looks like he’s in great physical shape, and why not have him give it another shot out there if he’s fully healthy? At this stage of the offseason, beggars can’t really be choosers.

Ray’s wrist injury was the primary cause of his lack of production in 2017 and 2018, not his actual football skills. If the Broncos believe that, would they believe in his ability to revive his career and produce in Vic Fangio’s defense?

At only 27 years of age, why not?

I sincerely doubt the Denver Broncos consult with Von Miller about roster decisions, but if anyone can vouch for Shane Ray, it’s Miller, who sees him quite a bit in the offseason.

Perhaps Miller’s connection with Ray could pay dividends for both the Broncos and Ray in this instance.
