Denver Broncos: De’Vante Bausby a surprising cut
The Denver Broncos have cut cornerback DeVante Bausby.
Every year, there are some surprising—shocking—cuts made all across the NFL. The Denver Broncos have made such a cut on Saturday.
The team has released cornerback DeVante Bausby.
Bausby was expected to be a starter for the team following a very good showing in the early parts of the 2019 season. Unfortunately, he suffered a season-ending neck injury.
He was in competition for a roster spot with Davontae Harris, Duke Dawson, and rookie Michael Ojemudia.
He dealt with another injury during camp, allowing others to beat him out.
Bausby has spent time with several teams since going undrafted in 2015. He signed as an undrafted free agent with the Kansas City Chiefs but did not spend a lot of time there. He then moved on to the Chicago Bears for the 2015-2016 seasons.
Bausby was with the Kansas City Chiefs for 2017 and part of 2018 before hooking on with the Eagles for two years. Then, he spent time in the AAF before the Broncos took notice of him.
While healthy, Bausby played in five games for the Broncos. He recorded 13 tackles during that time and showed a lot of promise. He was a player that I was really looking forward to seeing for years to come.
The Broncos’ cornerback position was a concern following the departure of Chris Harris Jr. But now, the expected depth chart will be A.J. Bouye, Bryce Callahan, rookie Michael Ojemudia, Davontae Harris, and undrafted rookie Essang Bassey.
Bassey really has shown up as an undrafted free agent and has earned his way onto the roster.
The Broncos still have a number of cuts to make before getting down to the 53-man roster limit. It is a tough time for many people across the NFL but for Bausby, his time in the NFL won’t be over. There is just too much talent there to ignore. Hopefully, he will make it onto the Broncos’ practice squad.
This move will absolutely turn out to be one of the biggest shockers in Broncos Country.
