Broncos running back Phillip Lindsay looks at the success of other Colorado sports teams and is motivated.

Minus the Colorado Rockies, successful sports teams in the Colorado area include the Avalanche and the Denver Nuggets. The Broncos hope to have the type of success that the city has seen from their pro hockey and basketball teams. Running back Phillip Lindsay talked about that in Tuesday’s Zoom press conference.

Lindsay simply put it like this: “You don’t want to be the only Colorado team not in the playoffs.”

As stated right off the bat, the Rockies currently have a losing record, but that’s beside the point.

Let’s take the Nuggets for example here. In their first playoff series of the 2020 postseason, they won their first game against the Utah Jazz and fell to 1-3 in the series. However, they came together to win the series 4-3.

Now, in the NFL, you do not get that many chances during a playoff run. You either win and continue or lose and go home.

As for the Avalanche, they have been very good as of late, despite there being a break in hockey action due to the pandemic, which has stalled the progression of the 2020 sports world.

In the NHL, players get drafted around 18-years old and therefore have the potential to build strong relationships by the time they are in their mid-20’s. As the Broncos go, Lindsay is entering just his third season in the league and has already established himself as a tremendous leader on the team.

With guys such as Courtland Sutton, Drew Lock, Von Miller, and Justin Simmons, not to mention second-year guard Dalton Risner, this team has that potential. The potential to come together and be on the same page every single week. They won’t win every game, but as long as there is an effort from every player on the team, the sky’s the limit for the Broncos.

There is going to be a number of undrafted players on this year’s team, including Lindsay. I do believe that the next player who makes the team right out of college without getting drafted will be able to have that connection with the Broncos running back and build a strong relationship with him.

Confidence is key for Phillip Lindsay and the Broncos.

As Jamal Murray of the Nuggets put it back in June, “We don’t think there’s a team that can beat us in a seven-game series when we’re playing at our best. When me and Joker [Nikola Jokic] are on, I don’t think there’s anyone who can stop us.”

The Broncos should have that same mentality.

Lindsay has been a great addition since joining the team as an undrafted free agent in 2018. He has surpassed 1,000 yards on the ground in each of his first two seasons and has shown that hard work definitely pays off.

It’s important to note that the Broncos still have to go through the Chiefs, but there is absolutely a possibility that they can sneak into the 2020 playoffs as a wildcard team. Last season, the Buffalo Bills and Tennessee Titans were the wildcard teams. Can the Broncos manage to have a better record than both of those teams? It will be fun to find out.
