Broncos clarify cornerback room with Isaac Yiadom trade
By Tylor Walden
Isaac Yiadom is no longer a Bronco. Denver has decided to move on from the 2018 third round pick.
With the various offseason moves the Denver Broncos have made to strengthen the defense, especially the cornerback side of things, there was a bit of buzz that Isaac Yiadom needed to perform well in training camp to stay in Denver.
It appears that the effort in training camp was not enough. And with just a few days until the team cuts down the roster to 53 players, the Broncos were able to give him another shot without having to cut ties.
According to Ryan O’Halloran, the Broncos and Giants have agreed to a trade that will send the Broncos’ 2018 third round pick to the Big Apple. In exchange, the Broncos will receive the Giants seventh round pick for the 2021 NFL Draft.
This move does not come as much of a surprise. With A.J. Bouye coming to Denver in the offseason and the team drafting Michael Ojemudia, it was going to be a long shot. You also cannot forget the Broncos will get DeVante Bausby back.
In fact, our very own Sayre Bedinger wrote a piece on the Broncos talking to the Jaguars about trading Yiadom to Jacksonville. The trade did happen with a team on the east coast, but more on the northern, colder side than the southern, warmer side.
The writing has been on the wall for Isaac Yiadom for some time.
In my opinion, it just seemed as if Yiadom did not quite have that “it” factor for the Denver Broncos. Over the last two seasons, he was beat in coverage quite a bit. Speaking of Bausby, he was the guy who replaced Yiadom in the third game of the 2019 season against the Packers.
Yiadom would get the starting role back, but then he would relinquish it to Devontae Harris later on in the year. It just was something that was not going to work out. But there are two positives to this story for both sides.
The Broncos at least got some kind of return value for a third rounder, although not a strong one by any means. And Isaac Yiadom will get a fresh start elsewhere for a Giants team that will be entering their first season without Eli Manning on the roster since 2004.
Here is hoping it works out for both parties involved.
