Denver Broncos: Cody White joins crowded group
The Denver Broncos made a move on Sunday afternoon to bolster the wide receiver position.
The Denver Broncos announced on Sunday they signed rookie wide receiver Cody White to a deal. White had previously visited with the Denver Broncos on Friday of last week per the NFL’s transaction wire.
White hails from Michigan State and the Big Ten conference. The latter comment is hilarious just from the standpoint that Denver keeps the continuity of their favor for the Big Ten conference strong on its roster. White will bring depth to the team adding competition with a variety of players not practicing due to injury.
White was a target magnet with the Spartans, but since Michigan State is a heavy run program and terrific defense, the targets would scatter throughout the season. However, White was a solid player during his time with Michigan State. White unfortunately did not hear his name called on Draft Day.
He found a temporary team after the NFL Draft was over with the Kansas City Chiefs. Maybe Denver’s plan is to pick the brain of White to see what he learned in his time with Chiefs. Nonetheless, White joins a crowded wide receiver room which is the deepest it has been in a long time.
White is talented enough to make it in the NFL. He is not flashy but is focusing on improving his craft and being a chain mover. One of the best traits of White is he has solid hands for a wide receiver. For White to stick on more with the team past camp he must show he is not just a one-trick pony.
White must climb that ladder and prove he belongs with the team this season. These types of players have done well in the league. In fact, Tim Patrick, another current Denver Broncos wide receiver, bounced around before finding a home with Denver. Not only must Cody White show he belongs in Denver, but the NFL in general.
The addition of White came after the injury news of KJ Hamler’s hamstring and a slew of bad news for Denver in the injury department. This could possibly open the door for a player like White. While it is not likely he is on the 53-man roster, White must prove he can be a valuable asset to the club as a Practice Squad candidate. White needs to prove his worth not only for Denver but for the 31 other teams as well.
