Denver Broncos: Things could be looking up for DaeSean Hamilton
DaeSean Hamilton may have gone from a roster bubble guy to being right back in the mix at wide receiver.
DaeSean Hamilton has been the subject of much discussion this offseason, at least here at Predominantly Orange. After the Denver Broncos used their first two draft picks on wide receivers, no player was hit harder than Hamilton.
He went from being a No. 2 or No. 3 wide receiver to No. 4 or No. 5. With players like Tim Patrick and Juwann Winfree being on the roster, that made Hamilton, a fourth-round pick just two years ago, to a fringe roster guy.
But within the first week of training camp, K.J. Hamler will miss some time with a hamstring injury and Winfree has missed the majority of the team’s practices so far with an injury.
Those situations, while unfortunate, help Hamilton immensely.
The Broncos will likely have to turn to Hamilton much more than they planned to even one week ago. Hamler will be a big part of the offense once fully healthy and Winfree, a sixth-round pick a year ago, was a guy who could have pushed Hamilton for a job.
That’s not to say that he can’t still do that, but missing four out of six practices so far makes it much more difficult.
Hamilton is a player who likely would have made the roster this year no matter what. He hasn’t been terrible in his first two years, but he hasn’t stood out the way many thought he would either. This season, as a No. 5 wide receiver for instance, he would have seen limited snaps or even placed on the gameday inactive list some weeks.
Hamilton needs to make the most out of the additional reps he gets in practice and show the team that he can be a player that can be trusted to make plays when his number is called. To this point, he’s been a marginal receiver at best, and now inside an offense surrounded by exciting weapons, he could easily fade into the background.
