Denver Broncos: Vic Fangio disappointed about no fans week 1 vs Titans
Head Coach Vic Fangio is disappointed that fans cannot attend the Denver Broncos home opener against the Tennessee Titans.
With coronavirus taking over a lot of the world these days, many tough decisions have to be made to keep safety of people as the main focus. That includes sports teams deciding to have limited—or even no—fans at their home games. The Denver Broncos made that decision for their week one game against the Titans.
Head coach Vic Fangio said that this outcome is very disappointing. The fans are a big part of the game.
"“Well, it’s disappointing. Like I said earlier, I watch a lot of sports as you guys know, even golf and baseball. It’s just not the same without the fans there. It isn’t. I’ve always known the fans are a big part of pro sports in particular. We’re going to miss them. We’re going to miss our fans in particular. They’ve given us a great boost and advantage at home. We love playing in front of them. There’s a love affair between the fans and the players and the team. We’re going to miss it. Hopefully at some point here we can keep doing the job with the COVID that we’re doing in the NFL and eventually get some fans in there hopefully.”— Head coach Vic Fangio (via Broncos PR)"
Broncos Country always brings so much passion to home (and away) games. I have been to six games in my lifetime and each one of them was filled with loud, screaming fans.
The fact that there will not be fans at the Broncos home opener also appears to force the team’s sellout streak to start from scratch. Unfortunately, even due to a pandemic, it makes sense for this to be the case rather than have this year not count. I wish it were the other way around, even just for the fun of it.
Fangio also said that he feels that the players will adjust nicely. The fact that there are not going to be fans in the stands does not change a team’s goal: winning. That’s the bottom line. It makes sense.
Athletes should have the ability to adjust to different circumstances and perform the way their coaches want and need them to. That’s just the reality. Focus is crucial.
Hopefully things around the world, in terms of the pandemic, settle down sooner rather than later. That would mean that fans could attend games without having to worry about getting the virus.
But for Fangio and the Broncos, as well as every other team in the league, whether there are going to be zero fans at a game or a limited capacity, the goal remains the same: Win.
