Denver Broncos: Veteran teammates should benefit DL Dre’Mont Jones‘ Development
The presence of Von Miller and Jurrell Casey, among others, should help Denver Broncos defensive lineman Dre’Mont Jones in his development.
It is always good when a team adds a veteran presence. The Denver Broncos did that when they traded for Jurrell Casey and A.J. Bouye.
That veteran presence is going to help some of the younger players on the defense. Specifically, defensive lineman Dre’Mont Jones was asked about this.
The trade that sent Casey to the Broncos should benefit Jones the most.
"“I picked his brain a little bit. Just having him as a whole in the D-line room has been great because he provides a different aspect that we didn’t really have last year. We’ve done a lot more after-practice things just to help improve with the pass rushing aspect and just get out here a play some more in the run game. His leadership has definitely boosted our D-line room. It has made us closer honestly.”— Defensive lineman Dre’Mont Jones (via Broncos PR)"
Every pass rusher, whether stand-up rushers or rushers who put their hand in the dirt like Casey, have their own techniques to getting to the quarterback or the backfield. Casey is a tremendous pass-rushing defensive lineman. He has 51 sacks in his career, as well as 84 tackles for loss.
If there is one player that the addition of Casey is going to benefit, it could be Jones.
Miller has shown great effort and determination to getting to the quarterback and it has paid off. The Broncos’ best pass rusher ha recorded 110 sacks in his career and has been so unstoppable. He’s the number one player teams need to look out for on the Broncos defense.
Jones looks to have a much better second season in the NFL. In 2019, he played in 14 games, recording 3.5 sacks, 14 tackles (eight solo), three tackles for loss, and six quarterback hits).
As for Jones’ last statement regarding Casey, one of the most important things is the leadership he brings. The Broncos and Vic Fangio have made a point in bringing in leadership and while it is not necessarily the biggest reason for success, it is absolutely a huge factor.
