Who holds the record for most yards rushing in a game?

Though the Broncos had both Floyd Little and Terrell Davis setting the standard for every running back who might come after them, neither holds the record for the most rushing yards in a game.

That honor belongs to Mike Anderson, who rumbled for 251 yards in a December 2000 game against the New Orleans Saints.

On that day, Anderson carried the ball 37 times for 251 yards and four touchdowns. More importantly, the Broncos won the game 38-23.

Those 251 rushing yards still rank in a tie for tenth place for most in a game in NFL history. Since Anderson’s feat, only six players have ever rushed for more yards in a game.

Anderson spent five seasons in Denver but his 2000 season was remarkable. As a rookie, he ran for 1,487 yards and 15 touchdowns. It remains one of the better seasons for a rookie running back in NFL history.
